Utah Olympic Park Luge Track
Used for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics, this 4380 foot - 1100 ton refrigeration capacity - downhill bobsled track asked BEE to find the most environmentally responsible and maintainable way to get its refrigeration system back to world-class standards. The existing, ammonia-based system had been under-performing. So with little historical performance data, BEE examined the costs and benefits of either repairing the damaged ammonia system or switching to a chilled glycol system, analyzing different plant options and reusing as much existing equipment and materials as possible.
