Duquesne Light Demand Side Management
Detailed energy studies (ASHRAE Level III) of two large hospitals, three university buildings, and a high rise office building totaling 1,756,850 square feet. Anticipated energy cost savings were $1,811,640 at an implementation cost of $3,511,926, for a total simple payback of 1.9 years. Measures identified and analyzed included lighting retrofits, lighting controls, air handling unit optimization (economizer optimization, building static pressure control, supply and mixed air temperature reset), programmable thermostats, evaporator controls, HVAC equipment replacement, cold-water humidification, boiler stack heat recovery, general repairs, combined heat and power, variable-flow conversion, variable frequency drives on chillers and cooling tower fans, demand controlled ventilation, and kitchen and laboratory hood controls, among others.
