Dennis Jones, PE, LEED AP, CxA
Principal - Element5 Energy Consultants
Dennis has over 35 years of experience in building energy optimization, energy modeling, energy audits, commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (RCx), renewable energy, and research.
Dennis feels his greatest strength is his analytic expertise in building energy systems and modeling combined with his hands-on commissioning experience in the field; providing him with insight as to how well advanced energy strategies actually work in the real world.
Dennis is most interested in zero energy building facilitation; it’s easier to get to zero energy than most people believe. It’s not about just adding a large PV array to the building, but rather proper engineering of more cost-effective design elements including daylighting, passive solar heating, natural cooling, and appropriate design of envelope, lighting, and HVAC systems.
Dennis is active on the national level with ASHRAE, regularly presenting papers, working on technical committees to advance the state of the art, and has recently completed a major ASHRAE research project on the effectiveness of the Advanced Energy Design Guidelines.
Dennis and his wife and dog, Ziggy, live in Belmar, a new-urban walkable community west of Denver. Their condo is 100% naturally cooled and heated with passive solar energy.
